Instagram updates - indexing of public posts

Big news for content creators and businesses! From July 10, Instagram is now letting Google index public posts from professional accounts.

This means your Instagram photos, reels, and videos can show up directly in Google search results, even to people who don’t follow you or use the app.

What does this mean for you?
✅ More visibility: Reach new audiences searching for your topics or brand on Google. People no longer need an Instagram account or have the app open to see your posts.
✅ SEO boost: Your Instagram content can now help drive organic traffic, not just social engagement via likes and shares.
✅ Privacy control: Only public posts from professional accounts are indexed.

This is a massive opportunity, but calls for some smart adjustments to shift from optimising to likes to optimising for search:

👉🏼 Use keywords in captions without keyword stuffing - no more vague 'weekend vibes' or 'hashtag#friyay' captions. Or at least not on the posts you hope to be indexed!
👉🏼 Give your bio a facelift to make sure it’s representing your brand. It’s now a key piece of content that will be shown in search results.
👉🏼 Optimise your alt text and hashtags. Google may not be able to see your pic, but it can read the tags.

Will be interesting to see the real impact over the coming weeks - could be a big one, or a bit of a non-event.
